Kisspeptin sits one rung above GnRH on the reproductive ladder. When kisspeptin-expressing neurons in the hypothalamus fire, they tell GnRH neurons to release GnRH, which tells the pituitary to release LH and FSH, which tells the gonads to make sex steroids.
